The Hobbit 2: Desolation of Smaug (Spoiler Warning)

One of the most anticipated movie of 2013 for me is The Hobbit (2): Desolation of Smaug. The first movie of The Hobbit revolves about the adventure of Bilbo Baggins and the dwarves in their expedition to regain Erebor. Erebor or Lonely Mountains were once a rich empire of gems, ruled by the King of Dwarves. But the king got blinded by his treasures, and eventually his empire was was destroyed when Smaug, the dragon burnt everything down.

The Hobbit 2 continues from where Hobbit 1 ends, starting from a flashback on how Gandalf found Thorin Oakenshield. Thoughout their journey to the Lonely Mountains, they gang of 13 dwarves were hunted and chased by orcs. They bumped into Beorn, a skin changer. Beorn seems to be grumpy grizzly, who is able to transit his shape from bear to human. Beorn showed them the path to Mirkwood. Gandalf, sensing of something amiss, decides to leave the dwarves to investigate something sinister. Hence, the dwarves move forth without him. In Mirkwood, they encountered giant spiders, and were rescued by a gang of Elves of Mirkwood, lead by Legolas Greenleaf, the prince of Mirkwood. Dwarves and Elves were known to have bad relationship, hence the dwarves were imprisoned. Bilbo Baggins, rescued the dwarves using his ring of invisibility. But as they make their way to escape, they were attacked by orcs.

The dwarves were rescued by Bard the Bowman. But Bard were worried that their expedition will lead to further destruction.

However, Thorin and his dwarves managed to make their way to Erebor to seek for the hidden door. Bilbo Baggins found the door and make his way in, unfortunately awaken Smaug while finding for the Arkenstone. Smaug then spewed fire at them, and the story ends when Smaug flew to destroy Laketown.

I anticipated this movie for quite a long time, mainly because Legolas and Tauriel are added in as new characters. Besides that, casting Luke Evans as Bard the Bowman also makes me very happy. (p/s: I still think that Luke Evans look very alike Orlando Bloom). There are few parts of the movie that were so draggy, and seems unnecessary for me, such as the love line between Tauriel and Kili, and the long-script between Smaug and Bilbo Baggins.  It also doesnt make sense for Legolas to go chasing on Orcs by himself.

Overall, the graphics of this 3-hour movie is very impressive.I can't wait for the final of the trilogy to come out!

Note: sorry for such a short review. I had fallen ill after watching this movie and on MC for two days already T_T
